Service Centers
The dynamics of Balochistan’s demographic variables compel that a vigilant eye is kept on the phenomena of population growth so that a balance may be attained between resources and population. On the other hand, while advocating free and informed choice and healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy, the department helps men, women, and families to plan their families better. This task is being carried out through the service delivery outlets of the department as follows:
- Family Health Clinics
- Family Welfare Centers
- Mobile Service Units
- RHS”A”
Family Welfare Centers
Operating in defined geographical areas the Family Welfare Centers (FWC) actively promote voluntary family planning. These centers mostly operate in rented buildings and serve as static facility for about 7,000 people. Furthermore, through its satellite clinics and outreach facilities, they cover an additional population of around 20,000 – 25,000.
The FWC’s scope of work includes:
- Counseling for family planning
- Provision of temporary family planning methods
- Provision of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services
- Treatment of minor ailments
- Management of reproductive tract infections/sexually transmitted infections (RTls/STls)
Mobile Service Units
Mobile Service Units (MSUs) headed by WMOs/ FTOs/ FWCs are based at the Tehsil level and provide family planning services to an outreach population of 30,000 people or 5,000 couples scattered in 15–20 villages by holding 8–12 camps regularly each month. They operate from specially designed vehicles and provide temporary family planning methods and related counseling. Moreover, they also provide maternal and child health care, educate on prevention and treatment of general ailments and refer contraceptive surgery cases to Family Health Clinics.
Institutes
Regional Training Institutes
Post 18th amendment and consequent devolution of the Population Welfare Departments to the provinces, one Regional Training Institutes situated in Balochistan were handed over to the Population Welfare Department, Balochistan. These are located in Quetta.
Regional Training Institute envisions the overall improvement of Reproductive Health status of people of Pakistan through:
- Human Resource Development
- Capacity Building of Service Providers
The main mission of the Regional Training Institute is to create a competent cadre of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Service providers through imparting high quality, competency-based training.
Packages and Objectives
The packages and objectives of the Regional Training Institutes are:
- FWWs 24 months basic training to meet the staff requirement of the program
- In-service training to medical officers of , MSU and doctors in the management hierarchy of the program
- Pre-service training to female FWAs immediately after their selection
- Career development courses for programme personnel like Assistant Sister Tutors (AST), Field Technical Officers (FTOs), and FWCs, FWWs, and master trainers
- Orientation/refresher training courses for doctors and paramedics on Family Planning and Reproductive Health Package
